We’re Banking Awesome!

We face the same struggles as every other financial institution. We’re all trying to find a position in an overcrowded marketplace. It’s congested with banking choices and we’re all trying to differentiate ourselves from one another. We compete with other credit unions, community banks and big banks.

We also face another challenge in that people still don’t completely understand what a credit union is and who can open an account. There are so many banking choices out there, which is why we decided to do something different this year with our marketing plan. Some of you may have even seen our new commercials and billboards. We’re structuring our message in a unique way that enables us to cut through the clutter, and further educate consumers about what credit unions are and who can open an account.

For this reason, we introduced Banking Awesome as our new tagline and the premise of our new campaign. Our goal in doing this is to present a bold, funny and edgy marketing campaign that asks all of us to step outside of our comfort zone. Additionally, by using the word “bank” in our advertising, we are building the education into the messaging and saying that we are like a bank, but better and just like a bank, anyone can open an account with us.

The core messaging is built around the fact that banks continue to get a bad reputation due to increased fees and impersonal service. Our message uses humor to convey this. We feel that the financial market needs a safe and secure banking environment that focuses on fitting individuals with services that suit them. We understand that everyone has a unique financial need. We also understand that the days of free checking are nearly gone and as big banks continue to merge and tack on more and more fees, the service their customers receive is becoming less personal.

On the other hand, over 75% of all credit unions continue to offer free checking. Even better… we offer More-Than-Free-Checking where we pay you to use your debit card and offer cash back on purchases! Additionally, service is and will always be a top priority. Our focus remains on delivering exceptional service at every interaction whether in person or through our electronic delivery channels. We want to make your banking experience convenient and seamless.

We stand out because we truly have a reason for people to leave their current banking relationship and move their accounts and loans to Nutmeg. Whether it’s our More-Than-Free-Checking, cutting edge electronic services such as e-Deposits or our Mobile App, or our personalized Auto Buying Service, we want to make your banking experience awesome! We also offer low rate auto loans, mortgages, teen and youth accounts, VISA® Credit Cards and much more. On top of all that, we’re the only financial institution in Connecticut to have a Mobile Branch (our branch on wheels).

This year our goal is to make a big impact in the banking world and continue to distinguish ourselves as an industry leader. We want everyone to know that “banking” is no longer a bad word, and we need your help to spread the word that we’re Banking Awesome!
