Credit Report Resources

As reported by the Federal Trade Commission, identity theft is the number one complaint among consumers. For this reason, it is important that you protect yourself; and always take steps to shield your identity. Some easy steps you can take to prevent thieves from stealing your financial information include:

  • Shred all pre-approved credit offers, credit and debit card receipts, insurance forms, financial statements, and other paperwork containing personal and financial information;
  • Check credit union statements and other financial statements monthly for discrepancies;
  • Don’t print your social security number on your checks and don’t carry your social security card in your wallet; and
  • Be hesitant about giving personal or financial information over the telephone – make sure you know the caller and know how the information will be used. We will never ask you for personal information via e-mail or the telephone.

It is also important that you check your credit report regularly in order to ensure there are no discrepancies. Look for anything that seems out of the ordinary. As instituted by the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions (FACT) Act, you can obtain a free yearly credit report by visiting www.annualcreditreport.com. You can also call 1-877-322-8228. Or mail to: Annual Credit Report Request Service P.O. Box 10528, Atlanta, GA 30348-5281. Unfortunately, identity theft is a problem that continues to grow.
