By now everyone has heard of the proposed fees on debit cards big banks such as Bank of America, SunTrust and Wells Fargo were going to charge, and then not. Ultimately, the banks decided to withdraw their plans to charge a debit card fee; but it was too little, too late. Consumers are tired of rising bank fees.
Enter credit unions. It’s a great time to be a credit union. Across the country we’ve gained attention for our consumer-centered focus and minimal fees. Although most of you reading this already know the benefits of joining, I’m asking that you help spread the word to your friends and family. We’ll even pay you to do it.
As you know, we not only care about your financial well-being, but we carry lower fees than big regional and national banks, as well as higher rates on savings, lower rates on loans, and more personalized service. We listen to the needs of our members on a very individual level, and strive to make a positive difference in their financial lives.
We’re continuing to grow and over the course of the next several years, you will begin to see more Nutmeg branches closer to where you live or work. We recently opened our new branch in the Newington Price Chopper, and plan to expand into West Hartford in 2012. We’re also open later hours to make it more convenient for people who can’t get to us during our regular business hours. We’re open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at our Newington branch and offer extended hours at all our other locations. Additionally, we’re open online 24/7 so you can bank anytime, no matter where you are via e-Banking, Mobile Banking, and e-Deposits (deposit your checks from home or work using your computer). You can even open accounts online. And as far as ATMs go, we offer access to over 30,000 free ATMs through our partnerships with the SUM and Co-Op Networks.
Look, we understand that switching your bank account seems like a hassle. We know a lot of people may feel the urge to switch but decide it’s not worth the frustration of moving. We make it easy. All you need to do is fill out a few easy forms and we’ll do the rest, including closing your accounts at other banks, moving your direct deposit and transferring your automatic payments. Even if you’re a current member with accounts at other financial institutions, we make moving to Nutmeg seamless!
At the end of the day, we recognize that you have many banking choices, but we want you to think of us first. We ask that you tell your friends and family to do the same. It will always be our goal to keep fees down and provide the best possible products and world class service to you.
